Winners of the Preservation & Rejuvenation Award for Lambeth Town Hall
Regional winners Morgan Sindall have won the Preservation and Rejuvenation National Award for the 'Your Town Hall' project in Lambeth! After winning at the Regional Constructing Excellence SECBE awards back in June 2018, Morgan Sindall were entered into the 11th national awards which took place on Friday 16th of November at a prestigious ceremony at the Grosvenor Square Marriott in London.
The refurbishment of Lambeth Town Hall has allowed the original volume and interior of this historic building to shine through once again, restoring it as a public landmark. The scheme involved consolidating Lambeth Council buildings from 14 to 2, saving £4.5m per year on running costs.
An extensive consultation was undertaken prior to works, with design proposals presented at events aimed at individual stakeholder groups, enabling the team to address any concerns with each group and obtain effective feedback. Workshops at proposal stage were also held with the Conservation Officer and Historic England engaged early in the refurbishment.
Ensuring they adopted a collaborative approach, review meetings were held with the site team and by clearly defining the scope of works it allowed the supply chain greater certainty of what work they are being asked to do and the phasing of such interfaces with other trades. Meetings were help with the supply chain to fully understand any concerns or queries and to allow everyone the opportunity to discuss the project in detail. Working in this collaborative way, built trust and confidence in both the scope of works and the teams delivering the works.
Morgan Sindall worked successfully to improve public accessibility for the community, visitors and staff by providing a new access from a brand-new court yard. Further improvements including the complete remodelling of existing spaces on the basement and second floors, resulting in the reinstatement of the atrium have blended the historic and modern aspects of the development.
Congratulations to Morgan Sindall for your thoroughly deserved awards for this outstanding project!
