SME of the Year sponsored by Baxall
LogiKal is an SME consultancy that specialises in project controls, enhanced business intelligence, and 4D/5D BIM solutions. The team is passionate about delivering projects, programmes, and portfolios more efficiently and smarter. LogiKal seeks to better utilise performance data and enhance project controls to save clients and industry time and money.
6 months ago, LogiKal established the digital taskforce that is made up of key digital and training experts from within the business. The goal of the taskforce is to grow digital solutions and capability in the LogiKal team and to bring innovation and lessons learned from digital construction to clients and the wider community. The group has 4 workstreams which are (WS1) Building Information Modelling (BIM), (WS2) Integrated Project Controls, (WS3) Digital Dashboards & Data Analytics and (WS4) Digital Training.
The group’s structure has a workstream lead, who is supported by a subject matter expert and then a group of 6-8 people to support each workstream. This structure has encouraged greater focus on digital training for staff and presents an opportunity for people who are interested in digital but have limited experience, the chance to progress. The group have adopted a 70-20-10 learning model (see image).
A standout project is LogiKal’s state-of-the-art 5D BIM solution on a megaproject. This innovative solution reduces efforts in reporting and caters to the fast-moving reality and current maturity of the project. LogiKal has won internal client awards for innovation, and this has been championed as best practice by the end client, HS2. The taskforce has used the learnings from this project to help other clients around the world develop 5D BIM solutions or prepare for readiness within the next year. LogiKal is dedicated, and has an established way through the taskforce, of transferring this knowledge for the benefit of clients and the industry as a whole. These learnings have been presented at industry events including the virtual Project Controls Expo.
LogiKal is dedicated to upskilling staff and providing the best environment and support for personal and professional growth. All staff have 5 days a year for training and self-development. Currently, all consultants are being supported through AMP or PMP qualifications. The employees also benefit from the vast “Knowledge Bank”, which is a repository of accumulated project intelligence and learning within LogiKal. This provides the team with the learning material, guidance documents and real-world examples for relevant topics within Project Controls and the Construction industry.
LogiKal has a strong community and has dedicated a lot to recruiting and fostering a positive and fun environment for staff. This includes social activities including a monthly team meeting with social activities afterwards (darts, bowling, clay shooting etc.). The company also have star achiever awards every month to celebrate people’s successes and a ‘thanks’ section on our HR management system to provide positive feedback amongst the team. This creates a friendly and welcoming environment where people look out for each other, support each other, and recognise each other’s achievements.
